Physician CEO

Abroad is proud to work in collaboration with Northwestern’s Kellogg School of Management to enhance the leadership and well-being of Physician CEOs across the globe.

Physicians tend to experience greater risks of burnout, self-beat-up, and anxiety due to the high-stakes nature of the work they perform. Physician CEOs also face the pressures of both running a business and directly serving their patients.

For these reasons, after the Physicians completed a 1-year executive education program at Northwestern to develop core business skills, Abroad was brought in as a partner to enhance the Physician CEOs’ leadership and mental health while continuing the strong sense of community achieved in the Kellogg ExecEd Program.

Below are the evidence-based results from our 1-year program with the Physician CEOs that included:

  • 18 individual coaching sessions

  • 10 community/group learning sessions (see example curriculum below)

  • A license to Abroad’s Human Transformation Platform that includes psychometric assessments and a comprehensive digital learning library to learn “on the go.”

Assessment Results

The average pre and post scores of the cohort below are reported as percentages on a 6-point likert scale. For example, a score of 100% would mean that you rated 6 out of 6 on all items within a category. A score of 0% would mean that you rated 1 out of 6 on all items within the category, and so on. It is important to note on a 6-point likert scale, a 5% improvement is a significant improvement. The PCEO's experienced massive improvements in 8 categories (highlighted in gold) where we provided direct interventions. Also note improvements in team cohesion with no direct team interventions. When leaders change, the whole organization benefits.

Testimonials

When evaluating a recommendation, it is good to know who is raving about the service. I am an engineer, entrepreneur, and plastic surgeon. I have enjoyed coaching for nearly 6 years and have experience with approximately 6 different coaches on 3 different platforms. When I first was introduced to the concept of coaching, I wondered what someone who was not an engineer, entrepreneur or plastic surgeon would be able to teach me about my business and success. Suffice it to say, my initial hesitations were completely unfounded. Coaching is not about fixing someone who is broken (although it certainly can help with that), but helping people achieve all that they are meant to be. It is also not about motivation (be sure to bring your own) but about removing the obstacles both internal and external to your own success.

While I’ve had many experiences with coaching none has had the same timeliness as the coaching I have received from Abroad. The individual coaching sessions and the group sessions intertwined beautifully allowing both a supported and growing general foundation of principles and specific guidance where needed. Most important to me was the eastern philosophy that is intertwined lightly in all that Abroad stands for. I would wholeheartedly recommend anyone who is interested in being a better version of themselves consider signing up! You will not be disappointed, and you will certainly get out as much as you put in amplified and magnified by their extraordinary talent.

Setting out on my journey with Abroad, I hoped to find my way through a seeming impasse in my organization. What I gained from this experience, however, has impacted not only my business decisions but my family, friendships, and most importantly the relationship that I have with myself. The combination of coaching, guided learning, community support, and daily mindfulness exercises have helped to transform my understanding of the world around me and frame the decisions that I make with

confidence and curiosity.

Leaders who are self aware make better more creative and equanimous decisions. They create healthy patterns that extend beyond themselves into the lives of those that they come in contact with. It is my hope that this wisdom becomes commonplace in all of our communities.

The Abroad leadership development program has been a real game changer for me. Coming out of the PCEO program, I felt like I had many new and wonderful tools to innovate, grow, and advance in my business. What Abroad has done has been to marry those tools with strategies that allow me to lead in ways that give me joy, that give balance to my life, that promote healthy relationships, and that actually improve my business and outcomes at the same time. I feel like my head has been lifted out of the fog of busyness, and that I can see many important things about myself and my work more clearly. Most good leaders want to grow, and to see growth. The challenge is to grow creatively in a way that avoids burnout, and that promotes personal peace and satisfaction. Abroad can help you to do that. I could not be more grateful to the Abroad team for how this has impacted all areas of my life and work, and I enthusiastically recommend this program for all leaders.
