Travel Insurance

While it is not required, we highly encourage you to secure travel insurance for the your trip to Peru. We recommend GeoBlue for travel medical and international health insurance. SquareMouth is a great site for US participants to compare several policies against each other.  Many credit card companies offer travel insurance policies as well.

We recommend you consider coverage for emergency medical needs, medical evacuation, cancellation coverage of at least $2k and interruption coverage of at least $3k. It is up to you if you'd like to secure coverage for the cost you will pay Abroad.

Packing List

May-September is the winter season in Peru, which also means the dry season that has very little precipitation.  This is also considered high season for travel.  Temperatures vary greatly with highs during the day being n the high 60’s F to low 70’s F (15-24 C) and nights being in the 30’s (0-2 C).  Due to the high altitude of this region as well as the proximity to the equator the sun’s rays are exceptionally intense. FAQ

  • Expect a minimum of 15 people and a maximum of 25 people. We keep group sizes small to build community and allow access to places normal tourists cannot visit.

  • We are diligent to make sure this is the right experience for you at this time in your life. Due to the small size of the group, we are looking for a group of socially-minded leaders and people committed to their professional and personal growth.

  • Absolutely, given this is a life changing experience, many leaders find great value and transformation in bringing their significant other. However, we have also seen other leaders utilize this time for personal contemplation and reflection. We will explore this in your 30-minute interview.

  • Our lead local guide is Francisco Astete Saavedra, the Founder of Latino Tours, a renowned travel agency based in Cusco, Peru. With a deep passion for his country’s rich cultural heritage, Francisco has dedicated his career to offering authentic, immersive travel experiences that showcase the beauty and history of Peru, particularly the sacred Inca sites. His expertise in tourism, paired with his commitment to sustainable and culturally responsible travel, has earned Latino Tours a reputation for excellence in the Peruvian travel industry.

  • You need to arrive in Cusco no later than the afternoon of August 16th to join our welcome dinner. On the return, you need to book your flights after noon local time on August 23rd. Airport transfers to/from the Cusco airport and hotels are included in the quest.

  • You are more than welcome to arrive earlier or stay later and, permitting hotel availability, we can extend your rooms at our quest hotels if you would like.

  • A full packing list will be provided once you sign up through our Peru Participant Dashboard.

  • Trekking/hiking is an important part of the experience. On the Quest, we will hike to Pumamarca (1.5 hours/6KM) and Machu Picchu (3 hours/3.2KM). On one of the hikes we will reach above 11,000 feet in elevation. If you cannot do any of these hikes, this likely is not the best trip for you. However, if you want to take a break from one of the hikes, we can arrange optional tours or rest at the hotel.

  • Major credit cards are widely accepted at most locations in Peru. Please note that transactions charged in Peruvian Soles may incur a currency transaction fee from your bank. Most establishments can charge in US Dollars as well. It is recommended to also have small, petty cash with you for local vendors, artisans and market purchases. Money exchange should be avoided at all airports due to the low exchange rate. We will suggest the best places to exchange money once on the ground.

  • We advise you to check with your cell phone provider to see if you can have reasonably priced international service in Peru. If you need a SIM card, then it’s provided as part of your Quest.

  • Voltage in Peru is 220 volts.

  • Travel insurance is required. You are also required to agree to our Terms and Conditions and release of liability. We will provide recommendations for reasonable travel insurance plans, as well as plans that will cover your entire investment for the Abroad Quest should you need to cancel for unforeseen reasons.

  • +60 Days - Full Refund

    +30 Days - 50% Refund

Within 30 Days - No Refund, although we will do our best to recapture any investment

  • At Abroad, we understand that life events and changes happen, and we strive to accommodate participants who need to cancel their registration. However, due to significant upfront costs and financial commitments, we adhere to the following cancellation policy:

75% refund: 90+ days prior to arrival
50% refund: 45+ days prior to arrival
No refund: Within 45 days to arrival

    Our payment terms are:

50% deposit upfront to secure your spot
50% balance due 90 days before quest (May 18, 2025)

  • Prior to the quest, we will provide you access to a purpose and life assessment that you will be able to review with one of our coaches. This will help you clarify your intentions and opportunities for growth. We also host a group session prior to the Quest to introduce you to the other participants and prepare you for the experience. Finally, after the Quest, we will offer three group learning sessions to help you integrate the Andean teachings into your life and leadership.
