New Zealand Quest
LEADERSHIP & THE NATURAL WORLD
The Land of Aotearoa
New Zealand has one of the most extraordinary landscapes on earth and is home to the Maori, the indigenous Polynesian peoples who settled on the islands more than 1,000 years ago. The Maori have profound practices that bring harmony to their land and people, and on this Quest we will learn how both the public and private sectors have integrated Maori wisdom into their governance and life.
Our Quest begins on the South Island in Glenorchy - a 1-hour drive from Queenstown and home to nearby national wonders. We will hop on board a helicopter for an exhilarating ride over fjords and rivers leading to Lake Wakatipu and the impressive Mitre Peak, as well other highlights throughout the Fiordland National Park. We will also hike in the World Heritage area of the Mount Aspiring National Park and experience the peace and serenity of a forest created thousands of years ago and virtually untouched since the last ice age.
Throughout the Quest a variety of landscapes will open up, inside and out, eventually leading us to our final destination on the North Island - the Whanganui River - a body of water which was recently granted “personhood” by the New Zealand government. We will have a chance to sit in a traditional “Marai” temple with Maori wisdom keepers, and learn from entrepreneurs and government leaders why aspects of the natural world have been offered the same rights as human beings.

Frequently Asked Questions
“As an executive for 30 years, I have experienced every possible form of leadership development. I’ve never experienced anything like this.”
Former CIO & SVP Genentech
What happens after I apply?
We will review your application to ensure you are a good fit for this particular experience. If so, we then progress to a required 30-minute interview with our Founder and CEO.
What will we discuss during my 30-minute interview?
During the required 30-minute interview, our CEO will learn a bit more about your personal goals, challenges and opportunities. The call is designed to determine if this is the right experience for you, or if another coaching or educational opportunity is better suited.
Is the curriculum customized?
Our curriculum and coaching is designed to be adaptable. Each day during the Quest our faculty will meet to discuss the unique needs of our group, and if any adjustments need to be made to the sessions we offer. Expect impromptu breakout sessions and experiences to guide the unique needs of the group.
What will I be learning?
We focus on developing the whole human, so expect a combination of practical business training, mindset development, and ancient practices from the Maori, as well as mindfulness to promote greater self understanding.
How do you choose your locations?
We carefully select the destinations for Abroad Quests based on the extraordinary outdoor activities, scenery, suitable luxurious accommodations, and the opportunity to experience enlightening local cultures.
What is the size of the cohort?
We limit cohort sizes to 15-20 participants to ensure everyone experiences focused personal and professional transformation. This also makes it easier to form meaningful relationships with other participants. By the end of the Quest, it is our hope that you form friendships and professional collaborations that last a lifetime.
Who will be on the trip with me?
The group will include senior leaders and influencers from top organizations throughout the world. Expect high-net worth individuals, C-Suite execs, partners at major financial institutions, emerging leaders, and their families.
Are my flights included?
We take care of all internal domestic flights from the South to North Island. You will need to arrange your own international flights, arriving into Queenstown by April 25, and departing from Auckland on May 2nd.
Do I have to stay at the chosen hotels?
We prefer all participants to stay in the same hotel since many meaningful relationships are formed during the peaceful hours before bed on property. In Queenstown we will be staying at Camp Glenorchy, New Zealand’s first net zero energy visitor destination. It opened in March 2019, and has been created from the ground up using green design philosophies and is the first ever guest accommodation designed according to the Living Building Challenge - the most rigorous sustainability standards in the world. In Queenstown you also have the option to choose a luxury option at the nearby Blanket Bay Lodge for an additional fee, based on availability.
In Wellington and Auckland, we will stay at the 5-star Sofitel hotels. We will end our trip at Chateau Tongariro, an elegant hotel in the heart of Tongariro National Park in Whakapapa Village.
Who will be my executive coach?
We pair you with the appropriate executive coach based on the needs identified in your application or those that arise during the Quest.
What does the dedicated event producer do?
Our event producer is responsible for making sure you don’t have to think about anything other than your personal and professional growth. Your Abroad Quest is a high-touch seamless travel experience made possible by our event producer and all the wonderful locals we work with.
Can I bring my spouse and kids?
Yes, we encourage this, and also welcome your loved ones to attend the ExecEd sessions. During previous Quest family members attended all the sessions and derived great value.
On every Abroad quest, we donate to social, environmental, and indigenous causes as part of our commitment to selfless service. To learn more about the incredible impact we have generated in the destinations we visit click here.
